SPECIAL WORDS FROM DANCER TARYN FAUSTMAN
When I think back to my years competing at Surrey Festival of Dance, I have so many fond
memories. One of the many highlights of Surrey Festival of Dance was performing in the Honors performance. This was such a fun way to end the competition and experience my fellow dancers awarded for their hard work and accomplishments. It was such a blast getting dressed up and laughing about all the silly and stupid things that went on backstage during competition.
Surrey Festival of Dance was a huge growing experience for my career. It helped me gain exposure from performing on stage as well as networking throughout the workshops and classes; this has opened many doors.
During my time competing at Surrey Festival of Dance, one of my major accomplishments was being chosen to compete at BC Provincials. I was fortunate enough to go on to win the title five years in a row in both Jazz and Modern.
After graduating from Burnaby North Secondary School, and Spotlight Dance Centre, my career has taken me to all seven continents, on stage, on screen, and off.
A few of my credits include: “Holland America Cruise Lines”,” Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines”, “RuPauls, from RuPauls Drag Race”, “Legends in Concert”, “Nickelodeon Slimefest- Samantha Jade”, “Best Buy”, “Vodafone” TVC, “Bates Motel”.
I am currently working with “Premium Projects” a Berlin Based company, opening a new Cirque type show in Doha Qatar.
For anyone who is looking to create a dance career, be prepared for failure. I have been fortunate with my career thus far, but I have also had my fair share of failures. I am a person that always wants to come up on top, we all do. Failure will happen, and those are the things that make you stronger, that make you get back up and back into the audition room. All I can say is work hard, and create your own path because there is no right or wrong way to success. If anyone told me six years ago I would be living in Doha Qatar, opening a brand new show I would had never believed them. This career can take you to some amazing places, be open and embrace it all.
I’m sending you all good luck vibes! All the best to everyone competing this year at Surrey Festival of Dance. Just know there is a big world out there waiting for your amazing talents!!!
GOOD LUCK!!
Cheers- Taryn Faustman
