Great dancers are great because of their passion.”

REVIEW: No Borders Group Dance Challenge 2018   arrow

Approximately two weeks after the close of the month long SFD, the NO BORDERS GROUP DANCE CHALLENGE & HONOUR AWARDS took place.  This event was nothing short of spectacular!  On May 12th starting at 9am and continuing until 9pm, the Main Stage at Surrey Civic Theatre was awash with many dancing feet as this popular challenge took flight.

This Challenge is open to first place winners from the SFD and for the first time is now open to any first place winners from recognized dance competitions.  The inclusion of more dance groups made for an impressive day of dance.

Defined by age and genre, the groups competed at each level receiving cash awards for winning their challenge.  There were ten categories with the first place winner from each category going on to compete in the highest recognition of all; The Grand Championship.  By the end of this intense evening and competition, audience members had witnessed the awarding of overall 3rd place, 2nd place and 2018 Grand Champions groups.

Want to know how popular this event is?  The Surrey Civic Theatre; Main Stage seats 402 patrons and the theatre was to capacity from 9am-9pm until the crowning of the Grand Champion.  “We look forward to hosting an exciting Challenge next year with our new broader reach”, notes SFD Treasurer Carol Girardi.  “The inclusion of First place winners from other competitions has changed the landscape of our Challenge for the better.”

The Honour Awards took place prior to the start of the No Border Group Dance Challenge.  Those winning Honour recognition were selected by the Adjudicators from the SFD.  Being an ‘adjudicator’s choice’ is a high honour for the dancers participating.
