MY LIFE: by Natalie Smith
My life-long goal has always been to make others happy through providing them with a joyous escape from what can be dark realities in life. The best way to achieve my goal was through performing. The moment I stepped on stage, I was determined to make the audience feel something. Musical theatre has given me the outlet to make my equally fulfilling career a reality.
When I was five I competed my first stage solo as Belle, a style of dance that was like a safety blanket to me. Stage solo is a routine that combines a strong dance base with acting or characterization; song and dance without the singing. This was my escape allowing me to face my fear of public singing. I would be left not caring about the awarding, as the smiles on the audience reward enough.
Growing up with a family in love with theatre, I decided at the age of ten that I would do what I love for a living. From that moment, my life was focused on making my dream come true through endless hours of Youtube watching and performing in my car.
Dance has given me so many amazing opportunities and friends over the years, Which has recently lead me to a performing arts college in the UK. The Arts is not just a hobby but something that takes over every fiber of my body and I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.
